Freelance Illustration

1983 - 2000

I began doing freelance illustration when I moved to San Francisco in 1983. From 1983 to 1986 I did illustrations for clients such as PC World Magazine and Interact (a magazine for Hewlett-Packard users). Most of these were commissioned by Graphic Eye, a small graphic design firm in Berkeley which handled the design and production of Interact.

In 1986 I moved to Los Angeles, where I did illustrations for the LA Reader and the LA Weekly before continuing on to Madison, Wisconsin in 1988.

In Madison I immediately became involved in the production of King Frog, a children's HyperCard stack. I did all the pictures for the program, contributed some scripting for developing the animation, and produced the package design, learning all the necessary skills on the job.

While working for Woodland I continued to do occasional freelance jobs, producing a number of brochures and ads, a wedding invitation, and a website for the McArdle Laboratory for Cancer Research at the University of Wisconsin, Madison.
